Gangster films were developed by Warner Bro's in the early 30's. They were filled with gritty narrative, social problems and usually the rise and fall of a person who breaks society's rules.
This particular genre became popular in the 1930's with films such as 'Scarface' (1932) and 'Angels With Dirty Faces' (1938) which are both filled with guns, crime, violence gangs and social status. This controversial genre not only highlights current issues but confirms the need for law and order. The 1930's was the era in which real gangsters were making the headlines, Hollywood captured this theme and adapted it to appeal toa broad audience of thrill seekers.
